The China Training Center of Reproductive Health and Family Care 
   1. Background (brief history)

The China Training Center of Reproductive Health and Family Care (CTC) was established in 2005 is a non-profit organization supported by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China (NHFPC) and the Municipal Government of Taicang.  The Center serves for the developing and implementation training programs and providing consultancy services for effective transfer of knowledge, skills, and experience, with eyes on supporting sustainable development. It focuses on improving the quality of lifelong Reproductive Health (RH) and ensuring access to the information, education and services needed to achieve RH.

  

   2. Areas of expertise

CTC mobilizes resources across three main platforms:

  • Service oriented: delivers training and education on RH and family care.

  • Market-oriented: demonstrates technology, products and services.

  • Internationally oriented: facilitates cooperation and communication on population and development with developing/developed countries.

   

   3. Strengths in the ICPD

It works in the following sectors: Adolescent Health; Capacity Building; Family Planning; Gender; HIV / AIDS; Information Technology; Maternal and Child Health; Monitoring & Evaluation; Policy & Advocacy; Population & Development; Poverty Reduction; Reproductive Health and Research (research on World Population and Development Dynamics, Population and Climate Change Global Initiative, and Reproductive Health Commodity Supply).

 

   4. Quality assurance/ previous evaluation

Cited in the Evidence and Action report 20/2013 of the UNFPA.

   

   5. Experience in South-South Cooperation initiatives

CTC was the leading team for South-South Cooperation task force in UNFPA’s 2006-2010 Country Program for China, the implementation agency of Japan International Cooperation Agency’s 2006-2008 RH program in Western China. It has also established close relationships with organizations like International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), and the International Council on Management of Population Programmes (ICOMP), Deutsch Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeiten (GIZ). The Center promoted several international seminars, such as the International Meeting on Monitoring and Implementation of the ICPD Beyond 2014, and has also provided family planning and RH services capacity building in Bangladesh, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
